A Wrigglesworth (right-back) 1915
|
|||||||||
Wrigglesworth, who at the time was playing for Goole Town, tried out
for Leeds City at the start of the 1915/16
season, and earned credit for his displays at full-back alongside
George Affleck in pre-season trials. Wrigglesworth came in at right-back at home to Lincoln City on 25 September
in place of the injured Tommy Lamph. Skipper George Law moved forward
to right-half with Wrigglesworth partnering Affleck. He was found wanting,
'erratic in his kicking' according to the Yorkshire Post, though
the Mercury described his as 'by no means incompetent'. Many of
the Lincoln attacks came down his flank, exposing his flaws, but Leeds
won the game 2-1. Wrigglesworth never appeared again for City and he is understood not
to have played in the Football League for any other club. |
