Summer Signings Looking Like Smart Business - October 2023
|
||||
Although it has been a mixed start to the season for Leeds
United in the Championship, there have been many positive signs that it
could be a good year for the club, as they look to make an immediate return
to the Premier League. Daniel Farke became the latest
Leeds United manager to join the club in the summer, and he will be
particularly pleased by the impact his signings have made in his team,
as they have all settled well and are already looking like they are smart
pieces of business. ?? #LUFC
is delighted to announce the signing of Swansea City striker Joel Piroe,
subject to a work permit and international clearance With four goals in his opening five Championship games for
Leeds, Dutchman Joel Piroe has been in hot form since he moved to Elland
Road from Swansea City. The club paid in the region of £10 million for
his services in the summer transfer window, and that is looking like money
well spent. Piroe knows the Championship well. He played 91 games in
the league for Swansea, scoring 41 goals before leaving the Welsh club.
In his opening season in the Championship, he found the net 22 times in
the league. Farke will be hoping his talented forward can better that
return in the latest campaign. The Dutch player has shown he is calm and composed in front
of goal, and that he offers so much more to his side other than finding
the back of the net. If Piroe continues at the strike rate he has begun with,
Leeds are likely to be one of the popular Bwin
soccer predictions today for the race for promotion in the Championship.
They are great odds of 11/8 in the promotion betting and 7/1 to win the
title with Bwin. Defensive midfield duo Ethan Ampadu and Glen Kamara have
quickly gelled together to create an excellent partnership in front of
Farke's defensive line. Leeds kept four consecutive clean sheets at the
start of September, and those two players had an integral role in keeping
out the opposition. Ampadu has a wealth of experience, as he has featured 41
times for Wales at senior level, while he has played in the Premier League
(Chelsea and Sheffield United), Serie A (Spezia and Venezia) and Bundesliga
(RB Leipzig). He started 31 games in Serie A last season for Spezia. The
versatile midfielder can also play at centre-back should Farke need him
to slot in there at any stage this season. ??? UNITED SIGN KAMARA Kamara was one of the last players to come into Leeds on
the final day of the transfer window. The Finland international had played
the last five seasons in the Scottish Premiership with Rangers. There
were several clubs chasing his services in the summer, but it was Leeds
that won the race for his signature. His class is showing already at this
level, and he should continue to be a great asset in midfield. Leeds are set for a busy end to 2023, with games coming
thick and fast over November and December, if they can keep picking up
points through those months, they will go into 2024 well-placed for a
promotion push. |
